The Cocktail That Does the Hosting for You
A Margarita is one of those drinks that instantly changes the mood - sharp lime, good tequila, plenty of ice.
Making them one by one, however, is less fun for whoever ends up behind the kitchen counter.
This pitcher version keeps things simple. Mix once, chill properly, and pour as people arrive. Ideal for summer evenings, taco nights, or any gathering that starts with “just one drink”.
Set out salt-rimmed glasses, lime wedges and a bowl of ice, then let everyone help themselves.
Margarita Pitcher Recipe
Serves 6–8
You’ll Need
350ml 100% agave tequila
175ml fresh lime juice (about 6–7 limes)
140ml orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
70ml agave syrup, or to taste
Ice
Lime wedges and salt, to serve
To Make
- Combine the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and agave syrup in a large jug or pitcher.
- Stir well and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Pour over plenty of ice in salt-rimmed glasses and serve with fresh lime wedges.
Why This Recipe Works
Making Margaritas by the pitcher means no stopping to shake drinks all evening. Everything’s done ahead of time, the flavours settle as it chills, and guests can serve themselves.
Fresh lime keeps it bright, agave softens the sharpness without making it overly sweet, and good tequila does most of the heavy lifting.
Make It Your Own
- Add sliced jalapeños for heat
- Swap some lime juice for grapefruit
- Top with soda water for a lighter version
- Add a pinch of chilli salt to the rim
Hosting Notes
Keep the ice separate if you’re making it ahead to avoid watering it down too quickly.
Salt the glasses before guests arrive and keep extra lime wedges nearby. The less last-minute prep, the better.
Best Served With
Fresh salsa, good tortilla chips, grilled corn, tacos and anything with plenty of lime and spice.

FAQs
What’s the best tequila for Margaritas?
A good quality blanco tequila made from 100% agave gives the cleanest flavour.
Can I make it ahead?
Yes. Mix everything except the ice a few hours ahead and keep chilled until serving.
Should Margaritas be frozen or on the rocks?
For hosting, on the rocks is easier and tastes fresher.
How do I make it less strong?
Top each glass with a splash of soda water or serve with extra ice.
