With Chilli Infused Tequila
Some cocktails quietly sit in the background.
A Spicy Margarita usually does the opposite.
Sharp lime, smooth tequila and a slow chilli heat make it one of those drinks people immediately ask for a second time round. It’s bright, fresh and just fiery enough to feel interesting without overpowering everything else around it.
And despite feeling slightly impressive, it takes less than two minutes to make properly.
Which is usually exactly what you want from a good cocktail.
Whether it’s tacos with friends, summer evenings in the garden or a Friday night that turns into another round unexpectedly, this is the kind of drink that earns its place on the playlist as much as the table.
Serves 1
You’ll Need
- 50ml chilli infused tequila
- 25ml fresh lime juice
- 15ml orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
- 10ml sugar syrup
- Ice
- Salt or chilli salt for the rim
- Lime wedge or fresh chilli, to garnish
To Make
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip lightly into salt or chilli salt.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the chilli infused tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and sugar syrup.
- Shake hard until properly chilled.
- Strain into your prepared glass over fresh ice or serve straight up depending on preference.
- Finish with a lime wedge or fresh chilli slice and serve immediately.
Why This Works
The chilli infused tequila adds warmth and depth without overwhelming the drink, while fresh lime keeps everything sharp and bright.
Orange liqueur rounds things out with sweetness and balance, creating that proper Margarita combination of citrus, salt and heat that keeps you going back for another sip.
It feels bold, but still incredibly easy to drink.
Make It Your Own
- Add soda water for a longer, lighter version
- Use Tajín or chilli salt around the rim
- Swap orange liqueur for blood orange syrup
- Add extra chilli slices if you like more heat

Yes - simply scale everything up and serve over plenty of ice for easy hosting.
What’s the best salt for the rim?
Chilli salt or Tajín both work brilliantly because they add sharpness, heat and texture together.
