Once a tired looking seaside town, an influx of people are now flocking to Margate’s new hipster scene. Now Dubbed “Shoreditch on sea”, it’s now home to stylish restaurants, boutique shops and a thriving arts scene.

Day 1: Morning:

Start your day with a leisurely stroll along Margate Main Sands, soaking in the refreshing coastal breeze and panoramic views.

Then Visit the Turner Contemporary, a world-class art gallery showcasing contemporary and modern art exhibitions. Immerse yourself in thought-provoking artworks and take in the stunning sea views from the gallery's large windows.

Afternoon:

Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at one of the local seafood restaurants or seafood stalls along the seafront. Saver fresh fish and chips or indulge in locally caught oysters. For me the best fish restaurant in Margate is Angela’s is a small seafood restaurant and rooms serving delicious, local seafood, alongside simple, seasonal vegetable-based dishes.

Evening:

Take a sunset walk along the picturesque Margate Harbour Arm, lined with vibrant bars, food stalls, and live entertainment. Enjoy a refreshing drink while taking in the beautiful sunset over the sea.

For dinner, treat yourself to a memorable dining experience at one of Margate's restaurants Sargasso. Sargasso is a destination restaurant which we would happily jump on the train and travel for one and a half hours just for lunch.

From the team behind East London's Brawn, Sargasso is bringing coastal cooking to Margate. Situated by the sea, this gem has all the right ingredients for a leisurely lunch or evening dinner. The exposed brick walls, well briefed staff and solid wine list, ideal for mates and dates.

The ever changing short but well executed menu often means the whole menu is ordered.

Campari spritz, g&t, red wine, beer!

Day 2: Morning:

Start your day with a visit to the Shell Grotto, a unique underground attraction adorned with intricate seashell mosaics. Marvel at the mysterious beauty and historical significance of this hidden gem.

Explore the iconic Dreamland, a vintage amusement park that has been lovingly restored. Enjoy thrilling rides, nostalgic arcades, and retro entertainment.

Afternoon:

Head to the Old Town and explore its narrow streets filled with independent shops, boutiques, and vintage stores. Discover unique finds and indulge in a spot of retail therapy.

Stop in The Greedy Cow for a Bloody Mary and a light lunch.

Evening:

Bottega Caruso in Margate, Kent is an Italian restaurant producing fresh pasta, homemade Italian food.

The idea of Bottega Caruso is to share the foods and recipes from Simona's village, and bring the best from Foglianise and Campania and mix it with all that they have here in Kent. They make fresh pasta, tomato sauce and other Italian treats and sell it from their shop in Margate.

We were a party of 6 and had the set menu comprising of:

St James Goats Cheese and honey, anchovies, pickles, meatballs. Followed by spicy pork ragu and smoked trout.

Ending on homemade limoncello and Tiramisu.

A small independent restaurant where the small menu was well curated and equally as delicious, modern Italian cooking at its very best.

End your 48 hours in Margate with a relaxing stroll along the seafront, enjoying the tranquility of the beach at night and stop off at Little Swift for post dinner cocktail and watch the sunset.
