Discover Whitstable In 48 Hours | Where To Visit | Eat and Drink

Whitstable is a charming seaside town in Kent, England, known for its picturesque beaches, fresh seafood, and artistic community. If you have 48 hours to spend in Whitstable, here's a suggested itinerary to help you make the most of your time:

Day 1:

Morning:

Start your day with a leisurely stroll along the Whitstable Harbour. Admire the colourful fishing boats, browse the local shops, and soak in the seaside atmosphere.

Afternoon:

Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at Wheelers Oyster Bar. Wheelers was established in 1856, the iconic pastel shades of pink and blues have made Wheelers a landmark.

The team of chefs produce everything from scratch, including bread which is baked on the premises through to the ice creams,

“They have also developed their own local organic garden producing salad, herbs and fresh fruit. Local fisherman work very hard to get us the best produce they can, which means no middle man so the produce is as fresh as possible, from local lobsters, through to Rye bay scallops, crabs, sea bass and of course our very own native oysters, not forgetting local cockles & whelks.”

Wheelers is a BYO but “The OFFY” across the road has a good selection of wines and beers.

If Picnic boxes are more your thing, you can pre order and take down to the beach and watch the sunset.

After lunch spend some time exploring the independent boutiques, art galleries, and antique shops along Harbour Street and Oxford Street.

Visit the Whitstable Brewery to sample some local craft beers and learn about the brewing process. They often offer tours and tastings.

Evening:

Enjoy a picturesque sunset walk along Tankerton Beach. The beach offers stunning views of the coastline and the Whitstable Bay.

Head for dinner to Harbour Street Tapas, Harbour Street Tapas serve Spanish small plates inspired by the culinary traditions of Spain’s many regions.

Day 2:

Morning:

Start your day with a visit to the Whitstable Farmers' Market (held on select days). Explore the stalls selling local produce, baked goods, and artisanal products.

Rent a bicycle or take a walk along the scenic Crab and Winkle Way, a disused railway line that offers beautiful views of the countryside and coastline.

Afternoon:

Take a boat trip from the harbor to see the historic Whitstable Wind Farm, which consists of wind turbines located offshore. The boat trip will give you a unique perspective of the town and the wind farm.

The Lobster Shack is a beach bar serving a selection of hot and cold seafood, with daily specials, amazing local beers and local wine.

We have been a few times, I like cracking the crab and lobster while my husband goes for the fish and chips.

Evening:

Indulge in some more fresh seafood for dinner. The Oyster Company, renowned for its oysters and seafood platters, is a great choice.

Experience a traditional English pub atmosphere and enjoy a pint at one of the local pubs, such as The Old Neptune which has the best spot for a cracking sunset.

If you're visiting during the summer, check if there are any events or festivals taking place, such as the Whitstable Oyster Festival. These events often feature live music, entertainment, and local delicacies.
