Ujamaa Single Origin Mitakawani Nutmeg 45g

£6.50
Sold Out

Known for its warm and nutty flavour, this organic and single origin nutmeg is grown by their partner small-hold farmer in the Mitakawani village.

This nutmeg is sourced from ancient nutmeg trees scattered throughout the village, which also provide essential shade for the local residents.

Upon cracking the nutmeg fruits open, they reveal the vibrant red-hued mace enveloping the outer shell of the nutmeg. These are sun-dried until they emit a distinctive rattling sound when shaken.

To access the actual nutmeg, handle the outer shell with care, and give it a gentle crack using either your hand or a utensil, such as a spoon. This will unveil the inner nutmeg, which you can then grate directly over your culinary creations.

For those who may not have encountered fresh nutmeg before, it's essential to preserve the precious mace (the red structure surrounding the nut) for various culinary applications.

Freshly grate this Mitakawani nutmeg over dishes like mashed potatoes, cheesy cauliflower, or grilled meat to enhance their flavors. Simultaneously, infuse the red mace into your preferred desserts or puddings to add a delightful finishing touch. It's truly one of the most versatile spices and remains one of our personal favourites.

flavour notes:

Zesty Lemon - Frankincense - Molasses
